"Target element no longer found on this page"¶
Fix a tooltip, highlight or tour step that can't find the thing on the page it's meant to point to.
Who can do this: All Flook users
Why this happens¶
Flook remembers the element you picked by how it's built on the page. If your website changes, for example after a redesign or when a button is renamed, Flook may not be able to find it any more.
It can also happen when:
- the element only appears after something else, such as opening a menu or signing in
- you're looking at a different page from the one the item was made on.
Steps¶
- In the Flook Builder, go to the page where the item should appear.
- Click List Tours and Widgets and open the item.
- If you see "… was created on a different page to the one you are viewing", click Navigate to Page.
- If you see "The originally selected element for … could no longer be found on the page", click Change Selection (the target icon) at the top of the page.
- Click the right element on the page.
- Click Save.
What your visitors see in the meantime¶
- Tooltips and highlights don't appear.
- Tour steps appear in the middle of the screen instead of next to the element.
Tips¶
- If the element is still there but has changed, try Element Targeting on the Advanced tab. See Choose which element an item points to.
- If the element only appears after an action (like opening a menu), do that action on the page before you click Change Selection.
