Start a tour from a button

Let visitors choose to start a tour by clicking a button or image in a tooltip, highlight or popup.

Who can do this: All Flook users

Before you start

  • Create your tour and publish it.
  • Create the tooltip, highlight or popup that will hold the button.

Steps

  1. In the Flook Builder, open the tooltip, highlight or popup.
  2. Click its button. If it doesn't have one, add one first. See Add buttons and choose what they do.
  3. In Button Settings, set Action to Launch tour.
  4. Choose the Tour. Each tour is labelled Published or Unpublished.
  5. Click Save.

You can do the same with an image. Set its Action to Launch tour.

What happens next

When a visitor clicks the button, the tour starts. If they're not on the tour's first page, Flook takes them there first.

A popup with a "Take the tour" button is a good way to offer a tour without it starting by itself.

Tips

  • You can't preview the tour from inside the item. Use Preview at the top of the page instead.
  • To see which items start a tour, open the tour's Tour Launch Settings and look under Launched from widgets.

Troubleshooting

"Selected Tour Unpublished"

The item with this button won't show on your website while the tour is unpublished. Publish the tour.

"This widget is being created on a page that doesn't match the tour's dynamic URL. This button will never be able to launch the tour from this page."

The tour's first page uses a pattern, such as companies/{companyID}/projects. Flook gets the values for those patterns from the page the visitor is on. If this page doesn't match the pattern, Flook can't work out where to send them. Put the button on a page that matches the tour's first page group, or change the pattern. When it works, you'll see "This page matches the tour's dynamic URL. The launch button will work from here."

The item with my button doesn't show at all

Visitors won't see an item with a Launch tour button if:

  • the tour is unpublished or has been deleted, or
  • the tour's first page uses a pattern that doesn't match the page the visitor is on.
