Choose which element an item points to¶
Change, or fine-tune, the thing on the page that a tooltip, highlight or tour step is attached to.
Who can do this: All Flook users
Pick a different element¶
- In the Flook Builder, open the item.
- At the top of the page, click Change Selection (the target icon).
- Click the new element on the page. Press Esc to cancel.
- Click Save.
Fine-tune which elements match¶
Flook remembers your element by how it's built on the page. Sometimes this matches more than one element, for example every row in a table. Use Element Targeting to control this.
- Open the item and go to the Advanced tab.
- Open Element Targeting.
- Turn on Show matches to outline every matching element on the page. The badge says No Matches found, Matches 1 element or how many it matches.
- To narrow it down:
- Match text (optional): only use elements that contain certain text, for example
Invite. - Only use first matched element: only use the first match on the page.
- Match text (optional): only use elements that contain certain text, for example
- Click Save.
Advanced: edit the selector¶
If you know how web pages are built, turn on Edit CSS Selector to change the selector by hand. The box turns green when it's valid and red when it isn't.
Tips¶
- If your element only appears after something else happens on the page (for example, after a menu opens), Flook shows the item once the element appears.
- If an item matches several elements and has a launcher, each element gets its own icon.
Troubleshooting¶
"Target element no longer found on this page"¶
See "Target element no longer found on this page".
"The CSS selector you’ve set no longer matches the element you originally selected."¶
The selector you've typed now points to something else. Click Change Selection and pick the element again, or correct the selector.
"Invalid selector"¶
The selector you've typed isn't valid. Correct it, or turn off Edit CSS Selector and use Change Selection instead.
"Invalid Pattern"¶
There's a mistake in Match text. Use plain words, or check the pattern if you're using a regular expression.
